What to Do in an Earthquake
When there is an earthquake of 5+ or more on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, the gas meter automatically shuts off the gas.
Don’t panic, act calmly.
(1) First, protect your personal safety.
When the shaking dies down, calmly turn off the fires of all gas appliance, and close the gas taps.
(3) Can you smell gas?
If you smell gas, do not use a ventilation fan, but open windows for ventilation. Close the gas meter valve, all other gas taps, and appliance taps, then call the “Dedicated Gas Leak Center” (Tel: 047-325-1049). Do not touch the switches of electrical appliances etc.
(4) After an earthquake, check the following before you try to use gas again
If you find any problem, there is the risk of fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, or other accidents, so ask the manufacturer or vendor to inspect and repair the equipment, and also contact Keiyo Gas.
(5) Check that your surroundings are safe before you start using gas.
If the gas does not come out, check whether the indicator lamp on the gas meter is flashing. If the red lamp is flashing, please reset the meter yourself.
